Subaru’s 2014 Forester XT has a new 2.0 litre turbo engine and we expect the same engine to be used in the new BRZ STI
We have seen pictures of the new BRZ STI being tested at the Nurburgring in Germany and we
know its suspension will be tweaked, but what about the engine? Any upgrades? With the release of the new 2015 WRX, we may have an idea of what Subaru has planned for the new performance BRZ. Subaru’s 2014 Forester XT has a new 2.0 litre turbo engine and we expect the same engine to be used in the new BRZ STI. The new 2.0-liter power plant comes with some improvements that make it ideal for the new BRZ STI.
Subaru BRZ fans have also been asking for more power and the new 2.0 litre engine produces more power. But the most significant improvement comes in its weight reduction and engine placement. The new model could produce as much as 280 hp and 250 plus lb ft of torque in the
BRZ performance model. That would make BRZ performance fans very happy. Rumours are that Subaru is going to roll out more cars from their performance division STI. The 2014 Subaru Forester was offered with a 2.5 liter 4 cylinder Boxer engine offering 170bhp at 5800 rpm and 174 lb/ft torque at 4100 rpm or a 2.0 liter 4 cylinder Boxer turbocharged and intercooler engine offering 250 hp at 5600 rpm and peak torque of 258 lb/ft at between 2000 to 4800 rpm. The former engine is mated to a 6 speed manual or lineartronic CVT while the latter is mated to a 6 speed and 8 speed manual with Hill Descent Controls.
The only reason we haven’t seen a new BRZ STI before now, is because Subaru was perfecting the new 2.0-liter turbo engine for the WRX. Now they should be ready to launch a new BRZ STI with more power. The new BRZ with STI badging will likely debut sometime in 2014 and could be a 2015 model.
