Subaru is not into WRC anymore but with its mud-spattered blue paint, this rally car is attracting a lot of young fans from the new generation
The 2015
New York Auto Show saw the debut of Subaru’s latest Rally-cross car, the WRX STI. It is one of the most admired vehicles from Subaru and this is why the Japanese manufacturer has chosen it as a base for latest Rally-cross models.
They are planning to compete in the X Games Rally-cross and Red Bull Global Rally-cross series, hoping to put in a spectacular show for the fans. The difference between traditional and Rally-cross championship is that in traditional stage rallying, the cars cover long distances but in Rally-cross, the cars are put on tight circuits.
Subaru WRX STI Rallycross car is dubbed VT15x and powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged four cylinder
boxer engine which packs 580 horses. Six-speed sequential gearbox is used to channelize that power to all four wheels enabling it to take only two seconds for a 60 mph sprint from a standstill.
Subaru Tecnica International, company’s performance division in collaboration with Vermont Sports-car, a rally-car builder; built this VT15x. According to Subaru in the last four years, they have offered three versions of their Rally-cross car.
This new 2015 Rally-cross car ahs a special colour sprayed on it instead of Subaru’s classic blue and yellow factory rally colours; it uses white, orange and silver.
Lasek is going to drive this new car and from May 31, he is going to compete the Red Bull Global Rally-cross season in full. For the X Games in June, Travis Pastrana will be joining the team.
