Top Safety Pick by IIHS is the 2015 Subaru WRX
June 20, 2014
The 2014 Subaru Impreza was awarded the Top Safety Pick and now the WRX achieves the same milestone The 2015 Subaru WRX is the next star from Subaru to be given the Top Safety Pick award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The same accolade for following the IIHS’s revised criteria was awarded to Impreza 2014 on which this WRX is based. It will be the third model from Subaru to get this honour as the 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek has also been rated Top Safety Pick. The roof, boot lid and glass are the only shared elements between 2015 WRX and 2014 Impreza but boosts a beasty flat-four 2.0 litre turbo engine churning out 268 hp. This new WRX now features a wider front and rear fender, doors, hood, headlamps, front and rear fascias. The IIHS tested the Subaru WRX vehicle for side impact frontal, overlap frontal, and the most famous tough small overlap frontal test. The revised criteria of IIHS for models beginning with 2014 model year requires the vehicles to score “Good” in side, roof, front, and head restraint tests, while the small-overlap test requires to score either “Good” or at least “Acceptable” to be accepted for an IIHS Top Safety Pick. The Subaru would have been entitled the Top Safety Pick+ award if the WRX had active safety features such as the brake-assist or the forward collision warning. If any vehicle has a forward collision warning system, it will be awarded a “Basic” status of Top Safety Pick+ and if it has the brake-assist system, it will get the “Advanced” or “Superior” status which highly depends on the performance in testing at 12 and 25 mph. You can have your own 2015 Subaru WRX in just £16,024 and the WRX STI in £20,875.
